An approximately three hour workshop looking practically at how you keep pigs for pork and bacon.

This workshop has been developed in response to the numerous requests I have had from people who have read the books and are ready to get started or just want to see what pig-keeping is like in practice. It has also been developed with families in mind where you want the whole family to be involved in your piggy adventure!  We’ll answer all those questions you wanted to ask and even those you had never thought of!

The workshop is run for individuals, couples or friends and family groups and is a chance to ask more personal questions and perhaps for us to look together at how you could set up your garden/land and what you need to do next. You should leave this course feeling inspired and more confident to get going with your pig project.

Who the workshop is Aimed at:

 Those of you who have read about keeping pigs or who have had some experience of keeping pigs who wish to:

 

·         Rear their own pigs in a small-scale, free range and sustainable way,

·         Produce pork and bacon for home consumption and/or selling locally,

·        Make a profit, just cover costs or simply for the love of it!

 

 

Core Subjects:

 

·        Legal Requirements

·         Housing

·         Fencing

·         Feeding

·         General Health and Care

·         Handling, Injecting, Ear Tagging

·        Breeds of Pig (with a focus on rare breed, traditional pigs)

·         Choosing a Pig

·        Where to go for Advice and Help

 

When you book your course you can also let me know if there are other things you would like to discuss such as your plot of land and how to fence it or which breeds would be better for your circumstances. Just let me know via email or give me a call.

Workshop Dates:

These worksops run weekly on:

-Wednesday(morning or afternoon)

- Thursday(morning or afternoon)

-Friday(morning or afternoon) 

- Sunday(afternoon only).

Workshop Times:

Mornings: 9.30am - 12.30pm 

Afternoons: 1.30pm - 4.30pm

Workshop Costs:

The course costs include simple refreshments and a comprehensive booklet of notes written by your tutor. 

 

 

ONLY £90 in total for upto 2 people attending a single course

OR

ONLY £150 in total for upto 5 people in a family group attending asingle course
